As many of you know, GK Calls has a strong affiliation with the Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary in Kingsville, ON. Some of you also may know that our own Bob Alfieri is currently acting as the interim president of the board of directors for the sanctuary.
Jack Miner became the founder of the migratory waterfowl refuge system by creating the Jack Miner Migratory Bird Sanctuary in 1904. It is located on the Miner property in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada.
Five years later he pioneered the banding of migrating waterfowl. The recovery data was instrumental in the establishment of the Migratory Bird Treaty of 1916 between the United States of America and Canada, as no government banding programs had been in existence at that time.
The Jack Miner Migratory Bird Foundation was established in 1931 in the United States and in 1936 in Canada to continue the good work of Jack Miner. The Foundation is a charitable organization that operates solely on grants and the generosity of private and corporate donations. The Board of Directors and staff are responsible for the ongoing operations of the Foundation.
In 2004, GK Calls came out with a commemorative goose call to help raise money for the Jack Miner Sanctuary. In doing so, we have raised thousands of dollars that went directly back into the sanctuary.
We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing a BRAND NEW limited edition commemorative duck call series in honor of the Jack Miner Sanctuary. This call is based off of the original GK Giant Killer, but has a few different color combinations representing different banding locations, collars, and tarsal bands.
There are only 21 of each color available to start. The numbers will be as follows: JM 2020-001, JM-2020 – 002, ….JM2020 – 021
